Two hours a quote. Now it is minutes.

How The Gift Section replaced photoshoots, spreadsheets and hand-written quotes with one private web app that builds the hamper, photographs it, writes the proposal and prices it.

The business

Corporate gifting, where every hamper is different.

The Gift Section is a Melbourne corporate gifting company in Bayswater, led by director Natalie Hallett. They build curated hampers for businesses. Locally sourced products, the client's own brand colours, ribbons, tags and printed items.

The difficulty is that nothing is off the shelf. Every enquiry is a different mix of products, a different box and a different budget. So every quote meant physically building the hamper, photographing it, setting up the lighting, pricing each item by hand, then writing the document around it. About two hours of work before a client had seen a single thing.

That was the bottleneck. Not the gifting, not the sourcing. The quoting.

Our approach

One app. The whole quote.

We built The Gift Section a private web application called Proposal Studio. It is not a template pack and it is not a plugin bolted onto their website. It is their own system, built around the way they already work, and it carries a quote from a blank screen to a finished branded PDF.

01

The boring bit first. A real product library.

Nothing clever works without this. Their entire range lives in the app now, imported straight from the spreadsheet they already kept. Names, photos, prices, and a note on which items can carry a client's printed logo and where it sits on the product.

Prices come from that library every time and are calculated on the server, not typed into a document. A quote cannot quietly go out with last year's price on it.

302 products live in the catalogue today, priced and photographed.
02

The hamper photo, without the photoshoot.

This is the part that used to cost the most time. Pick the box, the box colour, the tissue, the shredded fill and the ribbon, then tick the products. The app generates the photograph.

It produces two images. The open hamper showing what is actually inside it, and the closed box with the ribbon and gift tag. It honours the exact packaging that was chosen, and where the client has asked for their logo printed on an item, the logo goes onto that item.

Getting this right took real work. Generic AI image tools redraw packaging and invent label text, which is useless when you are selling someone a specific product. We rebuilt the pipeline so the products stay the products.

03

The proposal writes its own first draft.

The app reads the recipient company's website, then drafts the proposal in The Gift Section's voice. A cover line, a short piece on why gifting matters to that particular business, and a description of each hamper option.

It is a draft, on purpose. Every word lands on an editing screen first and Natalie changes whatever she wants before anything becomes a PDF. Nothing goes to a client unread, and the writing rules are strict. Australian spelling, no invented statistics, no marketing noise.

04

A finished document, priced to the cent.

Approve the draft and the app renders a print-ready A4 PDF. Several hamper options, each with its own generated photograph, its packaging spec, its contents list and a line-by-line price.

The investment summary adds it up, breaks out the GST and totals the order. Those numbers are recalculated from the product library at the moment the document is made, so the picture, the contents and the price can never disagree with each other.

Built to be left alone.

The app runs on our servers with their own logins, their own data and their own subscription. Finished proposals sit behind the login rather than in a public folder, because a quote carries a client's name and their pricing.

The database is backed up every night and the product photos every week. Natalie administers none of it. That is the point.

The outcome

The quote stops being the hard part.

"For a busy business owner like me, who has very little knowledge around AI, it has been an effortless experience."

Two hours of building, photographing and pricing a hamper became a few minutes at a screen. The client now sees a proper photograph of the hamper they are actually being offered, with their own logo on the printed items, in a document that looks like it took a designer a day.

The Gift Section did not change what they sell or how they source it. They took the two hours back, and a better-looking proposal now goes to every enquiry instead of only the big ones.

A real Google review from our client

★★★★★

“WOW WOW WOW!! Working with Don has been an amazing experience.

For a busy business owner like me, who has very little knowledge around AI, it has been an effortless experience to develop a new bespoke quoting system to use in our business. Don has asked us questions and held our hand through the entire process, giving us stage by stage viewing opportunities to check the project was heading the right direction.

We are now going live, after just a few short weeks of build time and we are very excited to see our productivity increase and our client proposals massively improve to benefit our clients.

Thanks Don, we will be coming to you again for the next stage of our AI development journey. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.”
